Eighth graders in Elisa Flynn’s science class at Polk County Middle School have been working in partnership with the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in a real-world data collection project.
Cretaceous Creatures is a program designed by the Museum to bring classrooms “into the field” and work with fossils.
Students were sent a bag of dirt from the Hell’s Creek Formation in Montana to collect fossils. Students sifted, collected, researched and identified fossils for the Museum. Student findings are then sent back to the Museum to be incorporated into their microfossil research.
