Polk County shook off a slow first quarter Tuesday and raced away to a key Mountain Foothills 7 Conference victory at Brevard.

The Wolverines notched a 63-32 triumph, taking sole possession of third place in the MF7 with the win. More importantly, Polk (10-7, 4-2) also moved a step closer to securing a .500 won-loss record that should lead to a first-round home 1A playoff game.

Brevard (5-12, 3-3) grabbed a 12-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. But Polk roared back to take a 26-17 edge at halftime, then steadily pulled away in the final two quarters.
