A proposed increase in rates, requested by the North Carolina Rate Bureau, a branch of the NC Department of Insurance, could cause homeowner insurance rates to increase across the state, including in Polk County.

According to the bureau’s suggestion, the proposed increases would vary by county, and Polk County residents could face a 20.5 percent increase, according to the request.

This proposal has not yet been approved at the state level, and there are opportunities for citizens to make their voices heard about this.
