Eatery to offer bigger menu, new hours

TRYON—Trade Street Creamery and Sandwich Shoppe in Tryon is expanding.

Owners Tania and Davey Shealey started the business as a humble hot dog cart in 2018 and opened the brick-and-mortar restaurant in downtown Tryon in 2020.

The restaurant, located at 10 N. Trade St., was leasing suite #2 of the building and is growing into suite #3. The two suites were separated by a false doorway, which the Shealeys are taking out to combine the two spaces.

“The funny thing is, when we first leased our space in 2020, we had the option to lease both units, and we said no thinking that we had enough space with only the one unit,” said Tania. “We quickly realized a few months in that we had made a huge mistake when our little shop grew in popularity. Fast forward three years later, the tenant, a former nail salon, ended her lease and we jumped on it without hesitation this time and quickly started our expansion.”

The renovations are currently underway and are expected to be complete by March 1. The name of the restaurant will also change to Trade Street Diner.

The eatery is expanding to have a full commercial kitchen that will allow for breakfast and a vast array of hot foods. Trade Street Diner will also offer an expanded soup and salad menu and even more desserts, coffee and ice cream options. Breakfast will be served all day long.

The eatery will also offer a new “make-your-own pancake” griddle table for guests to build their own pancakes with colored pancake mix.

“Patience, prayers and persistence is what finally got us to this point and we hope not to disappoint our patrons,” Tania said.

Trade Street Diner will be extending its hours to 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will be open every day of the week except for Monday. Ice cream will be available until 5 p.m. during the winter months and until 9 p.m. during the summer.
