Flash Flood Warning issued in Polk, Spartanburg counties

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Polk County, Spartanburg County and Rutherford County. The warning is in affect until 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

At 11:25 a.m. doppler radar indicated heavy storms across the warned area, with between 3 to 6 inches of rain falling across the warned area so far. Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are still possible.

“Onset of flash flooding is developing and significant flash flooding is expected to begin shortly,” the NWS said in its warning. This will be a prolonged event with new areas of flash flooding developing throughout the afternoon. Significant rises and adjacent flooding of the Green River, Broad River, Second Broad River and associated tributaries will continue to develop this afternoon.”

People should seek higher ground immediately, especially in flood prone areas. Extreme caution while traveling is advised. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads.
