POLK COUNTY—Due to the anticipated severe weather on Tuesday, all schools in Polk County will be closed for the day. Spartanburg County schools will have an e-learning day only, and announced all school and athletic events scheduled for tomorrow are canceled.

The forecast predicts heavy rains and strong winds in our area on Tuesday morning, with the possibility of up to six inches of rain over a 12-hour period and wind gusts ranging from 40 to 60 mph. Given the saturated ground and windy conditions, there is a high potential for downed trees, power outages and localized flooding.

“We have made this decision after consulting with local safety officials and receiving updated forecasts warning of high wind gusts, potential flooding and possible downed trees and power outages,” Polk County Schools Superintendent Aaron Greene said in an announcement on Monday evening. “While we know this is an inconvenience for families, we are concerned about our buses, young drivers and all those who would be traveling and feel it is better to err on the side of caution.”
