Traffic accident claims life of Landrum man

Incident occurred in April on West Rutherford St

LANDRUM—The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office has identified a Landrum man who died months after being involved in a car accident. 

Donald Travis Clayton, 43, was originally from Greer, S.C. He resided at 223 North Howard Ave. in Landrum. Clayton passed away eight months after the accident, just before 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, in Lexington, S.C.

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office was called to the Lexington Medical Center to investigate Clayton’s death, which the coroner has tentatively described as traffic-related. The Coroner’s Office must review medical records to further conclude the exact cause of death.

The car crash happened on April 27 on W. Rutherford St. in Landrum. 

The funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 26, at Seawright Funeral Chapel in Inman.

“I ask that you keep the family of Mr. Clayton in your thoughts and prayers during their time of loss and grief,” Coroner Rusty Clevenger told Fox Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Clayton’s family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Make A Wish Foundation, PO Box 29119, Phoenix, Arizona 85038-9119.
