Bobby Arledge was formally introduced as the new chief of the Columbus Fire Department, expressing his gratitude by telling the Town Council, “Hopefully, we’ll be making a lot of strides and progress moving forward.”

“So, if ya’ll do need anything from the fire department, let me know,” he added.

Arledge was appointed fire chief on December 4, replacing Tony Priester Sr. He will also still serve as Polk County Fire Marshall, as well as emergency director.

Jimmy Buell of Discover Columbus also addressed the council regarding the winners of its recently held Christmas decoration contest. Discover Columbus described the competition as “an opportunity for homeowners to showcase their unique style, creativity and holiday spirit.”

“This contest gives our home owners the chance to let their imagination run wild and spread joy throughout the community,” Buell said.

First place went to 301 Peak Street, second place was awarded to 140 Catherine Drive and third place was given to 100 Julia Street.

First place was presented with an award of $50, with second and third place receiving $25 each.
