BOYS BASKETBALL: Third-quarter flurry boosts Burns past Polk County

Kamari Surratt fueled a third-quarter flurry Wednesday that propelled Burns to a 77-64 victory over Polk County in boys basketball action in Lawndale.

Surratt had 16 points in the third quarter as the Bulldogs (2-5) scored 31 points in the period, breaking open what stood as a two-point game at the half.

Surratt finished with 27 points to lead Burns, which took a 57-41 lead into the final quarter and withstood a late Polk surge.

Gunnar Alm paced the Wolverines (1-7) with 17 points, with Aaron Jackson scoring 15 and Avery Harden scoring 12. Antonio Simpson and Lawson Carter each added eight points, with Khristian Littlejohn and Khalil Austin each scoring two.

Polk County is set to take part Dec. 27-29 in the 11th Annual Knights Christmas Tournament at North Henderson. The Wolverines begin play Dec. 27 at 1:30 p.m., facing Fountain Inn (S.C.).
