Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Tryon is hosting an advent concert to benefit its scholarship committee featuring five area professional musicians this Saturday, December 16, at 11 a.m.

Performers will include Constance Green of Tryon, a soprano with the Metropolitan Opera for three decades, and Peter Kutt of Tryon, a concert pianist of many years with the Asheville Symphony and a chamber musician.

Sherami Harris of Greenville, a frequent performer in the Upstate who repeatedly won the best university soprano voice at National Association of Teachers of Music annual competitions when she studied music at Converse University, will also be performing, along with Mari Hashimoto of Asheville, a violinist who recently performed with the Vienna Light Orchestra and a regular with the Blue Ridge Symphony Orchestra.

There will be a luncheon featuring foods from the Holy Lands included in the $10 ticket, and also the opportunity to bid on donated art by WNC artists, including five stained glass crosses.

All proceeds go to the scholarship committee, which recently awarded a $10,000 scholarship to a student attending USC-Upstate, and which takes applications from any university/college or vocational school bound student from Polk County.

Good Shepherd Episcopal Church is located at 814 Markham Rd. in Tryon. For more information, call 828 329-2217.
