My vision for Tryon

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

“Wow! What a great little town! This is the way it used to be! People are so friendly!” This is what I hear from a large number of people who visit Tryon and from many of us who live locally.

“Welcome to Heaven!” This is my “acre of diamonds.” “Nearly Perfect, Always Tryon!!” These are the words I say to many visitors to Tryon when I meet them on the sidewalks and they tell me about how wonderful we are.

Many of you already know how fantastic Tryon is because you chose to live here. My desire is to protect what we have, and I have a vision of how to preserve what we have and to expand on it. We all know that the rails trail is in the works, and before you know it, we will have a walking trail through the center of Town!

My vision is for Tryon to continue to thrive on what we already have and know works. We do not have a two-sided street so we must find a way to better utilize what we have. My plan is to have the back street converted to businesses instead of just bare space that is not attractive and appears somewhat disheveled. What can we do and how can we do it?

First let me give you my vision of how it should look. I see the parking regraded, paved, striped and organized with some extra lighting. I also see canopies on doors and windows. The next thing I want to see is some of our history painted onto the back and sides of some of our establishments. From here we can possibly visualize beauty parlors, architects, attorneys, finance and tax professionals, and other small businesses that do not require a ‘Main Street” main street!

Once this is done there are other ideas for the future that include increased parking, more restaurants, more retail, and much more beautification.
