Polk County built a 15-point halftime lead Wednesday and went on to take a 60-38 victory at Madison in a non-conference girls basketball matchup.

The Wolverines improved to 2-2 overall while the Patriots dropped to 1-4.

Polk County built a 30-15 margin at intermission thanks in large part to the efforts of Kiera Littlejohn, Kylie Lewis and Bailey Staton. Each had eight points in the opening half as Polk looked to work the ball inside against the Patriots.

Madison responded in the third period with a rally that cut the Polk lead to 37-32 entering the fourth quarter. But Staton poured in 12 of her game-high 25 points in the final period, including a pair of 3-pointers, as the Wolverines pulled away for the win.

Littlejohn finished with 14 points and Lewis added 13. Mia Bradley and Brianna Gray each had three points and Jayden Duncan added two.

Polk County returns home Friday for a matchup with Landrum.
