ASHEVILLE — Wiliam Earl Carter died on December 1st at Mission Hospital in Asheville from widespread cancer.

William attended Gardner Webb and Montreat Colleges. While there, he was active in Theatre and played major roles in plays, as he had done in Tryon. He has managed restaurants and lived his last years in Asheville where he was employed by the Asheville Civic Center.

He was predeceased by his dad, Earl, his sister Catherine and his brother Ken.

He is survived by his son Walter of Raleigh NC, his mother, Sally Jo, brother Robert (Margot), aunt June Brady and uncle Philip Hamrick (June). Also surviving are three nieces, Meg Carter Blue, Kate Carter, Rollins Carter and nephew, Lawson Carter.

Funeral services are planned for Monday, December 4, 2023, at 3:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Tryon. 

Memorials can be made to the Carter Family Scholarship Fund at First Baptist Church Tryon or to a charity of your choice.
