TRYON—Those looking to get into the holiday spirit will be able to ring in the season this weekend in downtown Tryon.

The Tryon Christmas Stroll will take place on Friday, December 1 along Trade Street from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitors will be able to kick off the holidays while enjoying festive music, carolers, extended shopping hours at downtown merchants and art galleries, holiday treats and more. The event will also include the lighting of the town Christmas tree at St. Luke’s Plaza, and the hanging of the wreath on Morris the Horse.

The Tryon Christmas Stroll is presented by the Tryon Downtown Development Association, and coincides with the TDDA’s Fourth Friday event. Many businesses and vendors will be offering holiday refreshments and music at the event.

Among the businesses providing treats, Back Alley Boutique and Bud Bar will offer hot cocoa.  “We’re excited to have another opportunity to connect with our community,” said owner Ryan Mesa. “We hope to see everyone there.”

Carol Browning of the Rotary Club will be set up near the plaza, selling tickets for the upcoming Community Chorus concert at Polk County High School on December 10, along with gourmet nuts. Community Chorus ticket sales benefit the Rotary scholarship fund, and the gourmet nuts proceeds go into the Rotary Foundation fund to be given back as grants in the community.

“It’s a wonderful way to support your community,” said Browning. “Come out and shop and support our businesses in Tryon.”

The event will even feature St. Nicholas himself, said TDDA Director Michelle Newman.

“Santa will make an appearance this year,” Newman says. “So kids should be working on their Christmas lists!”

The stroll will conclude with the lighting of the town Christmas tree, a beautiful Frasier Fir from Down To Earth Garden Center in Tryon.
