Rivera, Ed win North Knight titles; Wolverines place fourth

Polk County brought home two individual titles and a fourth-place team finish Wednesday from the North Knight Invitational at North Henderson.

Freshman Efrain Rivera won the 106-pound class and junior Jacob Ed took the 150-pound class to lead the Wolverines, who finished behind Pisgah, Byrnes (S.C.) and North Henderson in the 16-team field.

Making his Polk County debut, Rivera scored a 6-4 decision over Kaden Clopton of Science Hill (Tenn.) in the 106 final. Rivera recorded a pair of pins and a major decision in reaching the championship match.

Ed rolled through the 150-pound class with three pins, then decisioned North Henderson’s Nate Guerrero 6-3 in the final.

The Wolverines also had a pair of second-place showings as Zalen McCraw grabbed second at 175 pounds and Jadyn Virgil finished second at 215.

Full JV tournament results weren’t available, but Polk had class winners in Evan McCraw (126), Conner Ahlert (132), Zach McCraw (165 A) and Kaden Vandenploeg (165 B).

The Wolverines will make their home debut on Wednesday, hosting Blue Ridge (S.C.) and Shelby for a non-conference tri-match.
