WRESTLING: Polk earns runner-up finish at Plowboy Brawl

Polk County opened the 2023-24 wrestling season on Saturday with a solid second-place showing at the 2nd Annual Plowboy Brawl at Chase High School.

The Wolverines only finished behind Boiling Springs in the 16-team field. Brevard placed third, followed by Woodmont (S.C.) and East Henderson. The field included all seven Mountain Foothills 7 Conference schools.

Polk had three wrestlers win their weight classes – Aiden Billings at 126 pounds, Zalen McCraw at 175 and Jadyn Virgil at 215. Virgil won all four of his matches by fall.

Polk’s Jacob Ed (150) and Styler Blackwell (157) each placed second.

The Wolverines were slated to be back in action on Tuesday, hosting Chase in a dual match at 5 p.m. at Polk County Middle School.
