Tryon Fine Arts Center will continue its 2023-2024 Love Stories film series with the 2004 romantic drama, The Notebook on Tuesday, November 14. Showtimes are at 2 p.m. (matinee), with a second showing at 7 p.m.

Starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, the story, which is revealed through the reading of a personal notebook, has become one of the greatest romantic dramas of the 21st century. Entertainment Weekly included it on their “25 Sexiest Movies Ever” list and similarly, Movietone named it one of the “25 Best Romance Movies of all time.”

Directed by Nick Cassavetes, from a screenplay by Jeremy Leven and Jan Sardi, the film is based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks. Much of it was shot in coastal South Carolina, including the Boone Hall Plantation, Edisto Island, Cypress Gardens and the Charleston suburb of Mount Pleasant.

Since much of the story takes place in the 1940s, the soundtrack includes many great songs from the period, such as Billie Holiday’s great rendition of “I’ll Be Seeing You,” Duke Ellington’s “Alabama Home” and other pieces by the Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman orchestras.

The Tryon Fine Arts Center Box Office opens at 1:30 p.m. for the matinee and at 6:30 p.m. for refreshments and time to meet up with friends before the evening show. For more information about this film series and other events at TFAC visit tryonarts.org or, call 828-859-8322.
