Popular restaurant celebrates history with throwback menus, live music
SALUDA—Next month, the Purple Onion in Saluda is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Starting on Monday, November 13, a full schedule of unique events and activities will take place, celebrating the rich history of the restaurant.
Originally opened in 1998 by Susan Casey, the Purple Onion quickly made a name for itself in Saluda and across the region.
Casey’s daughter, Emily Lamar, and one of her daughter’s closest friends and a longtime co-worker, Chambli Stuper, took ownership of the restaurant three years ago.
“Taking over the reins from my mother in January of 2020 was both a terrifying and exciting adventure for us,” says Lamar. “Together with Chambli, we’ve sought to honor the restaurant’s legacy while introducing our own flair.”
Now, celebrating the quarter-of-a-century milestone, Lamar and Stuper are offering a limited-time throwback menu beginning November 13, and on Tuesday, November 14, the restaurant will host the “Best of…. Anniversary Wine Dinner,” where curated wine pairings and gourmet dishes from the past and present will be offered to guests, showcasing the best of the Purple Onion’s culinary journey. The Wine Dinner will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
On Sunday, November 19, the Purple Onion will conclude its anniversary week with live performances by Michael Flynn, Paper Crown and the Get Right Band. Performances will take place from 4 p.m to 9 p.m.
In addition, various other activities have been planned throughout the week to honor the legacy, guests and staff of the Purple Onion.
“We owe our success to our incredible team and our loyal patrons,” says Stuper. “This celebration is as much theirs as it is ours.”
