Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Whoooo’s that calling at night? FENCE is inviting the community to a nighttime walk around its property in search of some of our local owl species. The ‘Owl Prowl’ event will take place on Friday, October 20, at 6:30 p.m. Ventures Birding guide Clifton Avery will lead this prowl on the FENCE property.

The event is free and open to the public but space is limited. Please call 828-859-9021 or email info@fence.org to register for this event.

Hoots, toots, whinnies and even some whistles are made by our local owl species. On this owl prowl, participants will listen for and try to see as many different owls as possible. If lucky, they may get to hear/see Great Horned, Eastern Screech, Barred and Barn Owls. Of course, organizers hope for calm and clear weather as windy conditions can make finding owls very difficult!

Guests should ring a flashlight or headlamp (something with a red light option is best), their ‘inside voices,’ and be ready for some owling!

FENCE thanks the Kirby Endowment at the Polk County Community Foundation for making this event possible. FENCE is located at 3381 Hunting Country Road in Tryon, North Carolina. For more information, visit www.fence.org.
