COLUMBUS—Master Sergeant Albert Michael Cannon, U.S. Air Force (Ret.) 75, of Columbus, passed away, Wednesday morning, October 4, 2023 at his home.

Born in Polk County, he was the son of the late Albert Jervey Cannon and Mary Thompson Cannon. Michael was a 1966 graduate of Tryon High School. After high school, Michael enlisted with the U.S. Air Force and served 2 tours in Vietnam and retired after 27 years of service. Michael had lived many years in Mountain Home, Idaho and returned to Polk County in 2009. Michael enjoyed traveling, reading and time with his cats. He was a member of Pacolet Baptist Church in Lynn.

Surviving are two sisters, Sue Gosnell (Ross) of Columbus and Kay Cannon of Lynn. Also surviving are several cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday October 9, 2023 in Polk Memorial Gardens with Reverend Chad Bowman officiating.

Military honors will be conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
