Three Chesnee High students died in tragic accident

CHESNEE—The football game between Landrum and Chesnee high schools was postponed due to a wreck in Spartanburg County that claimed the lives of three students and injured another person on Friday afternoon. 

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, three passengers were trapped inside a 2016 Lexus sedan after it crashed into a ditch and several trees and caught fire on Fairfield Rd. near Chesnee at 3:36 p.m. on Friday. Three Chesnee High School students were pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was transported to a nearby hospital.

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office said that the car was extensively burned.

Students and faculty of Chesnee High School held a vigil Saturday night on school grounds, coming together to pray for the families affected by the tragic crash.

Chesnee High School canceled all sports functions for Saturday as well in what the principal has called a terrible tragedy in a message to parents Friday evening. The football game between Chesnee and Landrum was rescheduled to Monday, October 2.
