This year, the event raised an impressive $2,932 for the Foothills Humane Society and Paws, Prayers and Promises.

Of the 20 candidates that entered the contest, Clyde the Goberian came in third place, and second place went to Paddington the Wheaten Terrier. The coveted title of 2023 Tryon Dog Mayor went to Toby, a mixed breed.

The election results were counted and presented at 7 p.m. in St. Luke’s Plaza by Mayor Alan Peoples.

The first Dog Mayor was elected in 2019, with the honor surprisingly enough going to a cat, Rusty Bunshine. In 2022, the late Judy Booty won the election.
