From October 2023 to September 2024, surveyors will begin field collection data. Appraisers will be out in the field throughout Polk County doing drive-by reviews of properties. The appraisers will be conducting what is called curb reviews, which entails taking photos of homes. They will not be walking on citizens’ properties or measuring every home.

Once data collection is complete, the auditors will present the schedule of values to the Board of Commissioners. This will be followed by the announcement of public hearings, followed by the Board adopting the schedule of values.

Next, in February 2025, new value notices will be mailed to citizens who can appeal the new property values during March and April of  2025. Citizens can schedule appointments at the tax office, and administrators will work with them to answer questions or resolve any concerns they may have. If concerns aren’t resolved in this process, they will go to a formal appeal.

In July 2025, the new tax scales will be mailed with the updated values.

“We just need to let [Polk citizens] know that this is coming, and we want them to be able to ask questions and so forth,” said Chairman Tommy Melton. “We want them to know that there’s going to be people out in the field, they’ll have markers on their vehicles.”
