Gas leak in Tryon causes closure on New Market Rd

TRYON—A gas leak in downtown Tryon led to the closure of the lower end of New Market Rd. on Tuesday afternoon. The leak was located near the intersection of Trade St. and New Market, right next to Side Street Pizza and Pasta.
The New Market Rd. closure was from Trade St. to Whitney Ave. Tryon Fire Department were dispatched to the leak and were on the scene Tuesday afternoon, along with Dominion Energy.
A spokesperson for the Tryon Fire Department said Dominion Energy noticed the leak and called it in themselves while working on the lines. A Dominion representative declined to comment.
No homes or businesses were evacuated, and the cause of the leak was unknown at press time.
On Wednesday morning, the Town of Tryon said that New Market Rd. was open and the required repairs had been made.
