North Henderson spoiled the debut of Polk County’s new home uniforms on Tuesday, outlasting the Wolverines 3-1 in a non-conference soccer match in G.M. Tennant Stadium.

It marked the first loss of the season for Polk County (3-1-2). The Knights improved to 1-2-1 after losses last week to Brevard and Hendersonville.

The Wolverine defense was tested throughout the first half, but kept North Henderson at bay throughout and forged a 0-0 tie at halftime. That changed early in the second half as Dylan Perez slipped through the middle of Polk County’s defense, took a pass and scored from point-blank range.

Jaime Galarza added a goal for the Knights with 23:11 remaining in the match, but the Wolverines were not going quietly into the warm evening. With 10:27 left in the match, Manny Albarran took a pass from Sebastian Azar and found the back of the net, slicing the North lead in half.

The Wolverines pressed for the equalizer over the next couple of minutes before North’s Collins Kangethe broke free and scored an insurance goal with 7:37 remaining.

Polk County will kick off Mountain Foothills 7 Conference play on Monday, traveling to Patton for a 6 p.m. match.
