Specialized Physical and Occupational Therapy will open in Suite 104 of the Columbus Commons building, where highly trained therapists look forward to using their knowledge and expertise to improve their patients’ health.

Therapists Sarah Compton and Karol Young, alongside manager and mentor Jane Lewis, dreamt of opening their own clinic in order to provide specialized patient care in a setting that allows one-on-one attention.

“Patients succeed when there is continuity of care and when the patient sees the same therapist for an individual session,” says Young. “This allows the therapist and patient to develop a relationship while prioritizing wellness and managing chronic conditions.”

Compton, a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina, is known for her skills at treating orthopedic and neurological conditions. She also has special certifications in the treatment of cancer related conditions and is a certified Lymphedema Therapist and Oncology Rehabilitation Therapist.

Young, a clinician and educator who has lived and worked in Polk County for many years, has special qualifications in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation as well as custom orthotic fabrication and fitting. She also specializes in providing skilled care with individuals with arthritis, sports related injuries and Parkinson’s Disease.

The office is being managed by Jane Lewis who found a second career as a rehabilitation technician after experiencing a shoulder injury of her own which led to surgery and therapy recovery.

The team at Specialized Physical and Occupational Therapy stay up to date with the latest techniques offered to increase their patients health and comfort.

“It is important to stay up to date with the latest research and techniques,” says Young. “Our special certifications ensure that we continue to learn new treatments and enable us to provide the best possible care to our patients.”
