Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

This week Tryon Theatre is hosting its second week of the acclaimed comedy, “Barbie.”

This film sold out its first week with us and provided many laughs and cheers for an enthused audience. We hope the second week of the film’s run will find similar fans of its joyful and satirical humor! And while I could go on with praise for “Barbie,” this week’s column will best be served in keeping you readers abreast of important updates for the coming weeks.

The first update is regarding the upstairs “concessions” counter. Due to different technological and heating issues, the projection booth concessions counter will not be open for the foreseeable future. We appreciate everyone’s understanding of this change, and we appreciate all of our customers who patronized the projection counter in the past. Full concessions will still be served downstairs throughout the whole film.

Secondly, we will have a rare Friday closing this upcoming month, on Friday, September 22. Normally, we have a 7 p.m. showtime on Friday evenings. The week of September 20-24 we will have our typical Wednesday through Sunday showtimes, except for a closure that Friday. We appreciate everyone’s understanding with this one-off exception to our normal schedule.

Our third and final update is regarding our matinee showtimes. We are implementing a change in their timing. However, it is of paramount importance to appreciate that this change is starting with the notably lengthy Oppenheimer (September 13th – 17th), not beforehand. We are beginning the conversation now so it is not a shock to anyone, come the opening of Oppenheimer tickets a week from now.

In a normal week, we will have a 3:30 p.m. matinee on Thursday and a 3:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Thursday though also has a 7 p.m. evening showtime, leaving a limited window of time between the two shows to clean and restock. We have found with more and more recent films nearing the 3-hour mark that this narrow window has become increasingly tight. For both our staff’s concern of being able to have a breather between showtimes, and for our customers’ right to have a reliably clean and thorough theater experience, we would like to better secure a comfortable gap between our Thursday matinee and evening showtimes.

With this in mind, we will be moving the start time of our matinee shows (both Thursday and Sunday) up a full hour to 2:30 p.m., from the current 3:30 p.m. This means that the doors will open at 2 p.m., rather than 3 p.m. We understand that any changes like this bring a certain degree of confusion and we ask graciously for your understanding, as we are sure this will better enable us to provide the best experience possible at Tryon Theatre. Once this change is implemented with the run of “Oppenheimer,”  it will remain in effect for all future films. Thank you for your time in processing all of our updates and thank you for your ongoing support of Tryon Theatre!
