VOLLEYBALL: Polk upends Asheville Christian in four-set road win

Polk County took down the defending North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association state champions Wednesday – and on their home court.

The Wolverines claimed a 29-27, 25-17, 25-23, 25-10 victory at Asheville Christian Academy, downing the Lions in a non-conference clash in Swannanoa.

Polk County improved to 4-0 with the win. ACA, which dropped a tight five-set match Tuesday at Brevard, fell to 4-5.

Morgan Yoder led the Wolverines with 13 kills, also adding four aces. Mia Bradley and Ada Kelley each also had eight kills, with Bradley notching 13 digs and four aces and Kelley recording 10 digs and three blocks.

Sophia Overholt had 18 digs and four kills, with Kylie Lewis recording seven kills. Elena Carroll also had 18 digs.

Zaelea Eller recorded 20 assists and Charley Dusenbury had 15 assists for Polk County, which returns home Thursday to face A.C. Reynolds. Junior varsity action begins at 4:30 p.m., with varsity to follow at 5:30 p.m. Both matches will also be shown on NFHS Network.
