G.M. Tennant Stadium will look a little different Friday when Polk County’s football team kicks off the 2023 season.
Workers completed this weekend installing new goalposts in each end zone on W.J. Miller Field. The new goalposts have a modern approach, with the crossbar set above the end line and a single post set back several feet from the end line.
Polk’s previous goalposts had two uprights, each placed against the end line. This led to players occasionally running into a post, as happened to Wolverine wide receiver Antonio Simpson during the team’s recent scrimmage with Bessemer City.
Polk County will host Madison on Friday at 7:30 p.m. for its 2023 debut.
