Fundraising event to feature low country boil, live auction and more

LANDRUM—The Rotary Club of Tryon will be hosting its 21st annual Shrimpfest on Friday, September 15. Shrimpfest 2023 will be a fun evening of meeting old friends, making new friends and supporting the Rotary Club as it supports the community.

This year’s event will be held at Landrum Farmers Market, located at 103 N. Randolph Ave. in Landrum, after many years of being held at Harmon Field. The new venue will provide better protection from the weather, easier parking and improved restroom facilities, organizers say.

“This is an amazing event where you will see 300 to 350 people from all over our community sitting down together at one time to have dinner and enjoying each other’s company, while at the same time raising funds for both international and local causes that make our world and community a better place to live,” says Carol Browning, an event organizer and past president of the Rotary Club of Tryon. “This is a beautiful sight that I hope many in our community will want to be a part of.”

Shrimpfest 2023 will feature a traditional low country boil, including corn, potatoes and sausage, with shrimp boiled separately. Attendees will also enjoy other favorites as well, such as brats, cole slaw and homemade desserts. Beer and wine, along with soft drinks and water, will also be available.

Pam Stone will also perform at the event, and attendees can participate in a live auction.

Shrimpfest is one of the Rotary Club of Tryon’s major fundraisers for the Rotary Foundation, which supports Rotary International projects such as Polio Plus, ShelterBox USA and Clean Water projects. The club also supports local community organizations with funds to help carry out their missions, via grants.

This year, the Rotary Foundation awarded $39,000 in scholarships to students to help them continue their education beyond high school.

Tickets for Shrimpfest 2023 can be purchased from any Rotarian or online by going to rotarycluboftryon.com and clicking on Shrimpfest. Tickets are also available at Eventbrite.com.
