The pinnacle of Polk County’s athletic success is now recognized at the entrance to the school campus.

Workers recently finished installing a sign honoring Polk County’s eight state championship teams. The sign is placed on the bank at the school entrance and is visible to both those entering the school and those passing by on Highway 108.

Wolverine fan John Vining suggested the idea earlier this year to school and district officials, who worked with Vining on the sign’s design.

Teams honored on the sign, all winning championships at the 1A level, include:

• 1999, Girls Track
• 2001, Boys Soccer
• 2003, Boys Soccer
• 2009, Girls Soccer
• 2018, Boys Track
