SALUDA—The Saluda Historic Depot’s 8th annual golf tournament at Bright’s Creek Golf Resort will take place in Mill Spring on October 9. Shotgun start is at 11 a.m. and the practice range will be open at 9 a.m.
“We are looking forward to seeing our returning golfers as well as many new participants for another exciting day,” says organizer, Mike Reeves.
Built in 1903, the Saluda Train Depot sits on historic Main St. at the crest of the steepest mainline standard gauge railroad in the United States and is a contributing structure on the National Register of Historic Places in the listing for the Saluda Main Street Historic District.
In June 2016, a group of citizens formed a 501(c)3 non-profit and entered an agreement to purchase the depot building. From that time, a railroad and heritage museum to celebrate and memorialize the town’s railroad history and its beginnings was created.
The annual golf tournament is the major funding source to enable the operation of the museum and maintain the authentic 120-year-old building.
The tournament entry fee is $175 and registration can be done by visiting saludahistoricdepot.com and clicking the Events tab, where you can download the entry application and print the form. Forms can be emailed to savesaludadepot@gmail.com.
Participants can also send completed forms and payments to Saluda Historic Depot, P.O. Box 990, Saluda, NC 28773. The registration deadline is September 20, 2023. For more information on registering, please contact bruce.hunt190@gmail.com.
The museum is operated by an all-volunteer staff and is open Thursday through Sunday.
