Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Duplicate Bridge rewards clear thinking and superior card-play technique, but luck also plays a part. Some days it flows your way, some days it runs off in the other direction; and it can and often does have the final say in whether you finish first or back in the pack

For instance, Marilyn Doheny and Amelia Duquette played all three sessions last week at the Foothills Duplicate Bridge Club, once partnering with each other, and twice partnering with other players in last-minute arrangements. Luck, perhaps, eluded them, and they finished in first place exactly zero times. But they played steadfastly along — 72 hands over two days — and finished close enough to the top to earn masterpoints in each session. That is no small feat, and some days, luck be darned, it has to be satisfaction enough.

Among the outright winners, Bill Norteman and Tollie Ross posted the highest score of the week, 68.25 percent, and ran away with the North-South axis in the Friday morning game.
