Atlanta– Frances Lucinda Waymon was born in Tryon, N.C. on April 9, 1941, to Rev. John D. Waymon and Rev. Mary Kate Waymon, into their family of accomplished musicians. She was married to Markey E. Fox. On July 7, 2023, at the age of 82, Frances L. Fox passed away in Atlanta, GA, comforted in her last earthly days by devoted family members, including her nephew, Allen R. Waymon, her daughter Anita Fox Williams, her brother Samuel L. Waymon, her niece Tiffany Brooke Waymon and others.

Like both her parents and all of her siblings, Frances could sing and play the piano. She could dance the night away and make you laugh at the same time. She was a member of the Waymon Sisters, a Gospel group in Tryon, N.C.

One of her favorite songs was “Give Me That Old Time Religion” with her high soprano voice. She would ask her brother, Sam, to play as she sang. It brought such great joy, peace, and happiness to her soul and spirit every time. You could feel it and see it on her smiling face as she sang it.

However, for all who attended the family reunions over the years, she was known for leading a rousing rendition of “Highway to Heaven” at every opportunity. She was also the family historian and was known for always keeping in touch with many of her childhood friends.

Frances was a faithful member for 40 years of St. Mark AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia, where she also served alongside other faithful members in the Health Commission, Daughters of Allen, and Choir #1 ministries.

She will be missed.

She is survived by her brother, Samuel L. Waymon, her daughters Anita Fox Williams (Bruce) and Crystal Fox, and wonderful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, etc. She is predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Carroll, Dorothy, Eunice (Nina Simone), Harold, John, and Lucille.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Russell Tabernacle CME Church, 326 Ledbetter Road, Spindale, NC  28160.
