The Tryon Riding and Hunt Club recently announced the 2023 recipients of their annual education scholarships. In their ongoing efforts to support the local youth in their equestrian pursuits, the club is awarding $2,500 each to Sarah Moorshead and Samantha Collins.

Sarah, who also received the scholarship in 2022, is a Freshman at Clemson, and a member of the River Valley Pony Club and the Clemson Eventing Team. Sarah loves competing on Clemson’s eventing team and hopes to encourage more riders to join. Her goal after graduating is to open a rescue and retraining facility to give more horses a second chance at a career.

Samantha just graduated from Polk County High School and will be attending Wofford College next fall. She competes in dressage and is a working student for Ashley Perkins. She has also held multiple positions as a volunteer for ROCK Ride on Center for Kids in Texas. Samantha is in training now to participate in Grand Prix and hopes to eventually represent Team USA on an international level.

The TR&HC scholarships represent a long-standing tradition that is in keeping with the Club’s core values of philanthropy and service to the community while preserving and enhancing its equestrian heritage.

Applications are accepted from students living in Polk, Henderson, Rutherfordton, Spartanburg, or Greenville counties. Both graduating high school seniors and students currently enrolled in a college or university are invited to apply, with preference given to those graduating from high school. TR&HC looks forward to receiving future applications from aspiring equestrians as they pursue their passions and potential careers.
