On May 17, Lanndon “Lann” Brewington, a multi-generational Polk County native, was diagnosed with stage 4 head and neck cancer. In the following weeks he traveled to Spartanburg Regional five days a week for radiation treatments and chemotherapy.

As the medical bills increased, Lann’s daughter, Ashley Brewington, and local businesses have started working to raise funds to help Lann on his unfortunate and expensive journey.

Ashley created a T-shirt fundraiser and a local business is auctioning off items, but the primary fundraiser started when Ashley and her fiance and long-time Stott’s Ford mechanic, Nick Kniffin, had the idea to host a car show.

As a family of car enthusiasts, it is the perfect way for Lann, Ashley and Nick to bond while raising funds and raising cancer awareness in the community.

“Everyone has always known my dad by his cars, from the green Camaro in the 90s and now the black ZL1,” said Ashley on Wednesday. “Cancer has affected a lot of people in our community and with my family’s love for cars, I thought the best way for people to show their support for dad would be to organize a car show.”

The Brewington family asks the community to bring out their sports cars, muscle cars, motorcycles and any other vehicle to showcase at the car show.

Registration will be $20 and can be paid when arriving at FENCE.

Lann will be giving out trophies for his three favorite vehicles at the end of the day. The trophies will be provided by Waldrop’s Restoration, an auto body shop in Columbus.

T-shirts will be available for purchase and special door prizes will be available from the event’s sponsors, which include Stott’s Ford, Jackson’s Wrecker Service, Advanced Auto Parts, Eric’s Car Wash & Detail, Tryon Antique Mall & Marketplace, Vintage Sage Boutique & Interiors and Taylor Harwood Stylist.

Ashley says there are plans to make the car show an annual event if there is a good turnout next month, with proceeds donated to a new patient every year.

The car show will take place at FENCE on August 12 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. FENCE is located at 3381 Hunting Country Rd. in Tryon.
