Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I want to publicly thank the citizens of Polk County.

In 2002 I was fortunate enough to be named the Head Football Coach at Polk County High School. The Ollis family will be forever grateful for this incredible opportunity.

We saw great potential in the Wolverines and we would not be disappointed. This community adopted us and the investment we made in each other would pay off dividends for us both. It was so refreshing to be around folks that had an interest in you not only as a coach but as a father, husband and educator. No doubt my sons had the chances that came their way both academically and athletically as a result of our highly ranked school system and the importance of developing the total person through shared experiences that challenged them in the classroom and on the field.

There is and was tremendous pride in being a part of Polk County that permeated all facets of life. We were blessed to be around those that believed in us and I’ll never be able to repay all the good that came in our direction when we made the decision to make Polk County our home.

For 43 years every August 1st my feet have been on the grass with a whistle around my neck. I’m so glad that my coaching journey eventually ended here. This is an awesome place to live, raise a family, go to school and work. I truly believe it was providential for the Ollises to wind up in this great location. We’ve met so many great people. Our purpose (Jane and I) will continue to be involved in the best county in North Carolina and relish to still see it thrive in the future. The best part of our lives has been spent here because of its citizens.

“It will always be a Great Day to be a Wolverine!”
