Saluda– Robert Warren Metcalf, Jr., 79, of Saluda, went home to be with the Lord Saturday morning, July 15, 2023, at his home following a period of declining health.

Born in Henderson County, he was the son of the late Robert Warren Metcalf, Sr., and Nell Alderman Metcalf. Known as “Bobby” by most, he was a graduate of Saluda High School and went on to serve in the North Carolina National Guard as an M.P.

Bobby worked his whole career in manufacturing and retired in 2005 from Michelin Tire & Rubber in Spartanburg after 26 years of service. When not working at the plant, Bobby was a jack of all trades and enjoyed working for friends and neighbors with plumbing and electrical issues.

Bobby was a long-time member of Fork Creek Baptist Church having served as a deacon in the past.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Pat Rhodes Metcalf in 1993; infant daughter, Gina Nicole Metcalf; brother, Jerry Metcalf; stepdaughter, Pamela Lynn Ashley; son-in-law, Steve Ruff.

Surviving is his loving wife and caregiver of 29 years, Harriett Rhodes Metcalf; one daughter, Cathy M. Ruff (Mike Green) of Kannapolis; one son, Brian M. Metcalf (Kim) of Saluda; five grandchildren, Victoria R. Rushing (Chris), Brandon R. Metcalf, Grayson A.M. Metcalf, Matthew B. Metcalf and Megan A. Metcalf; three great-grandchildren, Kingston Rushing, Charlotte Rushing, and Penelope Rushing; three brothers, Corbett Metcalf (Elaine) of Greenville, Butch Metcalf (Martha) of Hendersonville and Tim Metcalf (Sandy) of Easton, PA; two sisters, Sandra M. Rhodes (Harrison) of Saluda and Rowena M. Sweezy (Mike Edney) of Landrum. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, July 18, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.

A funeral will be held in the McFarland Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2023, with Reverend James B. Parker and Reverend Jimmy Metcalf officiating.

Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.
