TRYON– Locals and Tryon tourists will have three opportunities to meet New York Times bestselling author L. M. Elliott the weekend of July 28 through July 30.
A longtime Washington D.C. magazine journalist before becoming a bestselling author, Elliott has written thirteen historical and biographical novels for teens, including Louisa June and the Nazis in the Waves; Under a War-torn Sky; WALLS; and Hamilton and Peggy!. Her works have been named NCSS/CBC Notables, Bank Street College of Ed. Best Books, Kirkus Best YA, Jefferson Cup Historical Fiction Honor Books, and Grateful American Book Prize Winners.
L.M. Elliott will discuss her historical novel Bea and the New Deal Horse, dubbed an “engrossing” “richly characterized novel set against a precisely drawn Great Depression backdrop” in a starred Publishers’ Weekly review, and an “exhilarating” and “gorgeous, almost bygone-era tale of overcoming adversity, full of wisdom for all” by School Library Journal.
Elliott will give a short reading and share the novel’s factual underpinnings including three real-life women equestrians who met the challenges of the 1930s and a male-dominated sport with steely poise and determination.
On Friday July 28, Elliot will be at Lanier Library at 11 a.m. Lanier Library is located at 72 Chestnut St. in Tryon.
On Saturday, July 29, Elliot will be at the Tryon International Equestrian Center Pony Championships starting at 3 p.m. Tryon International Equestrian Center is located at 25 international Blvd. in Mill Spring.
On Sunday July 30, Elliot will be at the Sanctuary at Red Bell Run at 1:30 p.m. Red Bell Run is located at 385 Blackwood Rd. in Columbus
