All incoming funds are being directed toward updating the park in anticipation for the hotly anticipated Rail Trail.

The first grant mentioned was from the Carolina Foothills Foundation, who recently awarded the city of Saluda a grant of $200,000 for the park.

“We are fortunate to be able to announce that we applied for the Carolina Foothills Foundation” Orr told the Board. “Commissioner Oxtoby was instrumental in working with that organization.”

In addition, the Board asked the Polk County Community Foundation for a grant of $40,000 and was awarded $30,000.

The Board hopes to use this money toward the construction of a tennis and pickleball court. Commissioner Paul Marion proposed a pickleball tournament to bring attention to the new court upon completion, and the idea arose for the creation of a governing organization for tennis and pickleball leagues and tournaments.

The Board hopes to raise another $200,000 to reach their current goal of $600,000.

“We are gradually gaining toward our goal for McCreery Park” said Orr, who is currently working on a cost – benefit analysis for the park’s funding.
