Columbus– Robert Andrews, 88, of Columbus North Carolina, passed away on June 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his beloved wife Nancy, loving daughters Pamela (Mauricio) Gonzalez, and Susan (Deris) Bagli, and grandchildren Andrew and Alec Gonzalez, Hannah, and Brennan Bagli.

He is preceded in death by his parents John and Lillian and his brother John.

Bob graduated from Sewanhaka High School in 1952 and continued his education at Rutgers University, Hofstra University, and New York University. He was a lifelong educator and returned in 1958 to Sewanhaka High School as a social studies teacher. He went on to become principal from 1971 until 1991 and was affectionately known as ‘Mr. Sewanhaka’. Bob’s passions included lacrosse. He was inducted into the Rutgers Olympic Sports Hall of Fame, the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Hall of Fame, and the Sewanhaka High School Sports Hall of Fame. He was an avid hiker and completed the 46 High Peaks in the Adirondacks. He was a golfer, gardener, and an exercise enthusiast. In his retirement, he volunteered his time with the Episcopal church and the fire departments of Keowee Key in Salem, South Carolina, and Columbus, North Carolina. Bob spent many summers at Camp Poko MacCready in Willsboro, NY. During his time at camp, he was a camper, counselor, and headmaster. While leading a camp canoe trip in 1960 Bob met Nancy, by chance, on the Essex, NY shoreline where she was an au pair for the summer. He spent summers at the family cabin on Lake Champlain creating life-long memories with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends.

A celebration of life will be held in Willsboro at a later date.
