COLUMBUS – The Polk County Senior Center, known as “The Meeting Place,” announced its temporary closure due to a water line break caused by severe weather conditions earlier this week. As a result, the center will remain closed until the water supply is restored to the main site.

“The safety and well-being of our valued members and visitors are of paramount importance to us, and until water services are fully restored, it is necessary to suspend all activities and services at the center,” said Joshua Kennedy, Polk County Health and Human Services Agency Director, in a press release. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that our dedicated team is diligently working to rectify the situation as quickly as possible.”

Due to the closure, all Meals on Wheels clients have been advised to utilize shelf-stable meals for the remainder of this week, including Monday, June 26th. This measure ensures that clients continue to receive nourishment during this period. The senior services division is actively formulating a plan to resume the delivery of hot meals beginning next week, and will release further details in the coming days.
