COLUMBUS—The Town of Columbus issued a boil water advisory this week after a water leak occurred Tuesday. The leak has been located and isolated, with repairs expected to take place Thursday.
Consumers are advised to boil all water used for human consumption or use bottled water.
Officials said residents were experiencing periods of low pressure and outages in the distribution system because of the leak. Periods of low to no pressure in the distribution system increase the chance of bacteria getting into the water system, prompting the boil advisory.
Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water, officials said.
Water customers are strongly urged to conserve water whenever possible.
This advisory remains in effect until further notice.
