The Board of Directors for the Stuart and Margaret L. Forbes Foundation has announced the recipient of the 2023 Margaret L. Forbes Distinguished Scholar Award, Cole Pereira.  

This $13,500 renewable scholarship totals $54,000 and is awarded to a Polk High Student who demonstrates outstanding leadership, high academic achievement and participation in clubs and extracurricular activities. The 2023 scholarship is awarded to Cole Pereira by the Forbes Foundation and the Polk County Community Foundation.

Cole was an honor student at Polk County High School, serving as the Junior and Senior Class President, and was active in school athletics. He played varsity soccer for all four years and was named captain and all-conference his senior year. Cole also participated in both indoor and outdoor track for his junior and senior years, where he was part of the 2A 4X400 State Champion Team. 

Cole has worked at various pizza restaurants, starting with Sidestreet Pizza, before joining his dad to start Flyboy and Doughbros Pizza. In his free time, he enjoys disc golf, walks with his dog and listening to podcasts.

Cole plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he will major in Political Science. He is the son of Emily Pereira and the late Anthony Pereira of Tryon.
