Hernandez and Cesante awarded Martin Scholarships

The 2023 R. J. and Linda Martin Scholarships are awarded this year to two deserving seniors at Polk County High School who demonstrate high achievement, are well-rounded, and are involved in extracurricular activities, Kiara Hernandez and Isabella Cesante.

The $1,000 awards were established in honor of Dr. R. J. “Jock” Martin and his wife, Linda Walker Martin. The Martin family established the Scholarship in 2018 based on a strong belief in the value of education as being essential to living a productive and fulfilling life. 

Hernandez is an outstanding graduate of Polk County High School. She has been an active member of the Culture Club, involved in the Theater and Vocal Music Programs  Kiara plans to attend Western Carolina University in the fall and major in Business.  She is the daughter of Everto and Maria Hernandez of Green Creek.

Cesante is an honor student at Polk County High School. She is active in numerous clubs and holds leadership roles in Health Occupations Students of America, Culture Club and the Humane Society Club.  Isabella plans to attend Western Carolina University in the fall and major in Nursing. She is the daughter of Yvonne Cesante of Tryon.
