Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the residence belonged to family members of the suspect’s child and that there was a series of antagonistic messages between the child’s mother and the suspect.

In the messages, the suspect learned the location of the victims, according to deputies. He then allegedly drove from the city limits of Spartanburg to the residence while armed with a semi-automatic weapon.

Nigerjuan Eliphus Turner, 27 of Spartanburg, allegedly fired shots towards the residence and at the victim and her family, including two children. Some of the victim’s family members returned fire in defense and inadvertently struck a neighbor’s house.

As he left the scene, Turner crashed into a concrete culvert and damaged his vehicle, resulting in a flat tire, deputies say.

While pulled over to change the tire, deputies located Turner and took him into custody without incident.

Turner was charged with five counts of attempted murder, domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
