TRYON—On Thursday, a broken sewer line in Tryon led to the discharge of thousands of gallons of untreated wastewater into a local waterway, officials say.

According to W. Blake Arledge, Communications Supervisor for the Town of Tryon, a broken 8-inch sewer line located along Jervey Rd. led to the discharge on June 8.

An estimated 5,000 to 6,000 gallons of untreated wastewater entered into a tributary of Little Creek, Arledge says. Little Creek flows into Vaughn Creek. The leak occurred from approximately 3:30 to 7 p.m.
