Parsec’s new travel partner in our journey toward providing exceptional service

It’s hard to believe, but this year marks our tenth year in Tryon. I used to publish a column in this paper called “Life in the Slow Lane.” It featured my musings on small-town life here in Tryon, our community’s slice of heaven.

While I haven’t lost that sense of wonder or changed my mind about life in the slow lane, I have learned that sometimes in life we must temporarily divert from the slow lane. If we’re going a touch faster than the person in front of us, we might divert to the passing lane for a minute or two. If our five-year-old daughter, Luna, needs the restroom or wants a mid-road-trip snack, we might pull over.

Whatever the reason, eventually getting out of the slow lane – even temporarily – is a normal part of life.

Recently, Parsec Financial, the firm I’ve proudly been with for seven years, was acquired by Modera Wealth Management. In this instance, Parsec decided to link up with a fellow traveler headed to the same destination. But our “destination” is not a place, it is a service: a relentless commitment to a client-first, fiduciary approach to helping the families we serve achieve their long-term financial goals.

If you know Parsec, you know Modera. Our core values and investment approach are near identical – we strive to deliver sophisticated, fee-only wealth management in a highly personal way. We still know the back roads and the neighborhood shortcuts. We are, and always will be, locals with a deep understanding of, and commitment to, our Tryon community.

While our name may be changing, our team remains the same – we’re just adding a car full of new, talented colleagues. Tom Orecchio (CEO of Modera) and Rick Manske (former CEO of Parsec, now Chief Growth Officer of Modera) have known each other for years. Our relationship with Modera’s team is a partnership. If we need to stop off or want to reroute, we’ll simply have a conversation with our travel companion. In the same way, we welcome and respect Modera’s input and direction.

While our firm is now larger, maintaining personal relationships with our clients is a value we remain deeply dedicated to. I got into this profession for one reason: I wanted to help people. My relationships with my clients and the ability to help them is truly what keeps me coming back every day, and that’s why I love working at Modera. Growing in resources and strengthening our position as an independently managed, fee-only fiduciary firm allows us to confidently deliver even better service to our clients. Our clients will always be valued and prioritized, and they will always have a voice.

Having a travel companion doesn’t come without its challenges. But in the end, it’s worth it. You have a partner to commune with at rest stops. You have someone who is on the same journey as you, understanding and relating to its highs and lows. You have someone to fortify you along and celebrate with when you reach milestones. And we are confident that our clients’ experience will only be enhanced by our decision to join forces with the Modera team. In my view, life in the slow lane is better with a partner.

Modera Wealth Management is a fee-only, fiduciary financial advisory firm focused on providing clients with a high level of care and attention. We examine and evaluate each client’s entire financial picture, offer prompt responses to their questions, and present customized solutions that always put their interests before our own. You want advisors whose services are comprehensive and who are able and willing to offer you support and guidance throughout the year on a wide range of financial matters. Choosing fiduciaries — those legally bound to act in your best interest — will provide you with objective advice and peace of mind.

Modera has maintained a client-first philosophy since its inception in 1983 when its predecessor firm established itself as one of the country’s first fee-only advisory firms. Since then, Modera has grown its geographical footprint while adding depth and breadth to its expertise. Modera has offices up and down the East Coast, spanning from Massachusetts to Florida, and serves clients in cities and states throughout the country.
