The Scotsgrove Spring Hunter Pace and Trail Ride was held Saturday, May 20.
With the assistance of Scott Tate, Leslie Scott was able to make it work. Riders were able to see first-hand some damage that had been repaired after recent heavy rains. The 9-mile trail route was well-marked.
The usual trails were followed allowing riders to navigate the trails through woods, fields, and the pine plantation, with some cross-country jumps, but no water crossings. Riders were taken around the ponds and enjoyed a nice canter up “Kudzu Hill.”
Jon Keisler did a stellar job as parking attendant extraordinaire.
The half-way point was held at the Hangman’s Tree. Handing out ice-cold water and timing the mandatory 3-minute hold were AK McMillan, Jackie Smith and Heather Daniel, who had carrots for the mounts as well!
Joey Cabaniss and Gwen Phifer were the timers for the day. Even on a good day, keeping track of 76 riders can be most confusing. Times are so close at some events and that can very well make a difference between First Place and an Honorable Mention.
Lunch was shopped for, prepared, and served by Beth Straitiff.
