Polk County’s girls soccer season came to an end Thursday, the Wolverines falling 7-0 at Hendersonville in the second round of the state 2A playoffs.
Hendersonville improved to 16-4 and moves on to the third round, where the Bearcats will host East Gaston, 2-1 winners over East Davidson.
Polk County ends a stellar season with a 17-4-1 record. Three of the four losses came against Hendersonville, which hasn’t lost to the Wolverines since the 2016 season.
Polk’s hopes at reversing that trend took a serious blow on Wednesday as starting goalkeeper Maggie McCammon suffered a knee injury in practice. McCammon, who had more than 140 saves during the season, missed Thursday’s match.
Hendersonville broke onto the scoreboard with a pair of goals midway through the first half and built a 4-0 lead at intermission. The Bearcats continued to tally in the second half and have now outscored opponents 15-0 thus far in the postseason.
